Having Ms. Eagle as a teacher in high school allowed me to grow my skills as a writer faster than other students my age. Being in an Early College setting, the expectations for success are higher than the average high schooler, and she taught me ways to excel as a college student while being a high school student. I am in my last year at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and can still see the lasting impact her teaching and assistance has on my writing to this day. 

Dr. Eagle was my 10th grade English teacher. She was a phenomenal teacher and her passion for writing and English really showed in the classroom. I remember telling Dr. Eagle that I wanted to read more and she went out and bought me a few books as an end of year gift. I hold that memory and credit her to sparking my love for reading and realistic fiction novels.

When Dr. Jessica Eagle started to work with me, my writing was weak, convoluted, and disorganized (on a good day). Worse? I would have sworn up-and-down that my writing could top the class. Dr. Eagle worked with me to condense, collate, and strengthen my thoughts. Her style of feedback not only improved the current piece of writing, but empowered me to bring a better first draft the next time we’d sit down. 

More valuable, though, was that she took time to get to know me; she validated my feelings and allowed me to feel seen throughout the process. She encouraged me to re-frame writing as a powerful tool, and that was the best lesson I learned. I am not just a better technical writer because of time spend with Dr. Eagle, but my writing is more thoughtful, more creative, and more courageous because of her guidance and support. 

Now, I get to engage in creative writing for my job every day! And Dr. Eagle’s lessons are never far from the back of my mind. I am supremely grateful for my time learning from Dr. Eagle, and I strongly recommend her services to anyone hoping to be a better writer, communicator, or leader.

Mrs. Eagle has a certain way of inspiring you to think differently about writing, focusing on unlocking a deeper level of thinking and understanding of a subject matter to allow thoughts to flow naturally into cohesive arguments and rhetoric. Dr. Jessica Eagle was not only a wonderful teacher to the small early college community, but a friend as well. Her relatability to students provided us with a safe and comfortable environment to seek help and guidance with our writing. While following curriculum, she found ways to include memorable and lasting “tips & tricks” that have stuck with me through college. When it came time to write college admissions essays, we were more than prepared. I just completed my Bachelor’s Degree at Queens University of Charlotte, & cannot give enough thanks to Ms. Eagle, and others, for providing the stepping stones to where I am today!
